LITERARY RESPONSE - DEATH OF A SALESMAN2Literary Response - Death of a SalesmanThe American Dream is something every person has heard of. It is a dream of freedom and prosperity. A dream for oneself, for their children, and for generations to come. American’s did not want life handed to them, they wanted their hard work to pay off. According to the Declaration of Independence, every person was entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is the very dream that Willy Loman wanted for himself and his family. However, Willy sees a different path to the American Dream than some. Willy tries to charm his way to success, personality is more important that smarts. Like life, we see in this play, the different paths life can take to get to the end goal. Through Arthur Miller’s play, we see the American Dream through the use of characterization and dialog.
