Adam Sherman Professor Duncan Intro to Philosophy Assignment 1 Everyday thousands of innocent people die from diseases, natural disasters, car accidents, murders and other causes that are not simply old age. The question we must ask ourselves is why God allows for these people to die. Does God not care about humanity? No, God does care and that is why he takes these souls from us. God is saving us from ourselves. If nobody died from these causes then the population would be massive. Worldwide famines would kill huge amounts of people and there would be little or no undeveloped land on the continents. The immense famine, deforestation and overuse of limited resources would leave the planet in much worse shape than it already is in today. God lets some people die so that the majority can survive. God permits murder, disease and natural disasters in order for the population not to become so large that it brings about its own downfall. This is the main idea of the population control theodicy which is fueled by the greater good strategy. The greater good strategy suggests that God’s permission of evil is
