Bosch 1Jordan BoschAdam LazarewiczPSY 352 – Section 19/10/16Personality Tests: A Catch Twenty-Two Personality tests are interesting to take because one is able to gain more insight on what works better for them. For example, are they an introvert or an extrovert, knowing this will allowa person to know if they enjoy large crowds or if they prefer to be around a more intimate group of friends. This will then allow them to understand better why they get energized by being around people or if they get drained. These tests can also give an individual a better understanding of if they are a logical person or a more creative person and this could give a person an idea of what hobbies or careers they might enjoy. These just two aspects of what a personality test can tell about a person from just a few questions and although they can be helpful in learning more about one’s self they are also problematic.Some problems with personality tests are the questions because the questions are often double barrel questions with a fixed set of answers a person can choose from. This is done to make personality tests universal, however, it causes the personality report to be somewhat generalized and inaccurate. The “16 Personalities” and “Big Five” personality tests were based solely on structured self-report data. This means it is up to the individual taking the test to provide accurate responses to each question. However, this does not always happen and can cause the results of personality
