The Influences Adults have on Children Children are constantly changing, they are always being taught what is the correct thing to do in situations and how to be more mature everyday. In Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird it displays that children are influenced by the choices adults make. In the novel Scout and Jem are influenced by Atticus's decisions many times because they are learning how to live like him, and along the way being taught the positive way of handling hate and being mature in many situations where they might have to be like being tempted to get into a fight. Atticus scolds Scout about picking fights with kids at school and influences her not to fight Cecil Jacobs anymore, even if they were making fun of him for defending Tom Robinson. Atticus has set many examples for the kids but what most affected her was not fighting anymore because it is what she always resorted to and everyone knew it. Scout says to herself, “I drew a bead on him, remembered what atticus had said,
