Discussion Question response due by Jan. 17 at 4:00 p.m. After reading Chapters 4 and 5 respond to the following: Rape has been viewed as both an act of violence and of sexual passion. Considering these two schools of thought (reference the text for support), what kind of public policy and private action would you want to adopt to lessen the amount of rape in American society and to reduce the amount of sexual deviance, cybersex and violent crimes. Respond in 500 + - words. Respond to at least 2 other students’ posts as well as any comment posted by the instructor. Responses should be posted in Discussion Board. Jan. 20 at 4:00 p.m. Rome: There are numerous public policies and private actions that could be implemented to lessen the amount of rape in American society. Education is an obvious and useful determent as well as a great place to start. Such edification should begin in elementary school and continue throughout the entire tenure of matriculation and should include the debunking of conventional myths such as; rape tends to be an unplanned, impulsive act; women frequently bring false accusations against men; most women fantasize about being raped; a woman who is raped is usually partly to blame for it; it is not possible for a man to rape a healthy woman unless she is willing; and aggressive, promiscuous, inebriated, or provocatively dressed women are “asking for it” or “should know better”. If men who accept these myths as true are more likely to be sexually aggressive and commit or approve of rape, then these fairytales need to be exposed and discredited.
