Christianity - Central pillar of Christianity is resurrection o Implies that you are coming back from the dead o Importance of resurrection Main function to fulfill was that it kept the covenant that God gave to Abraham (land and progeny) 1 st Abraham 2 nd Moses o Giving of the Decalogue make a people (like a constitution unites people) This nation created was given a promise which was God said to them “You shall be for me, a kingdom—You will be mine (as long as you keep the covenant) “ In the back of Israel’s mind at all times; they are his o Threats seen as dire; some threats to the covenant were: 1. Divided monarchy 2. Assyria Invasion 3. Babylonian Exile Did God leave us? Why is he sending us to a land with pagans 4. Hellenization (Antiochus Epiphanes) Pagans are coming in and influencing Israelites. Has God left us? 5. Roman Occupation o All these threats caused people to ask “Do we still have to covenant.” If they say yes, then they have to come to a consensus of why all bad stuff happened if they are the chosen people Thru answers, resurrection developed o Death Not seen as strange in the OT; it was normal
