Bryn Willingham March 22, 2017 NRC 211 Carnivore Distribution Assignment 1. Based on the results, the more effective “capture” method appears to be the camera traps. Of the 42 camera traps/scent stations, 9 of them were unsuccessful in either taking a photo or recording a track. Out of the 9 that were unsuccessful, 7 of them were scent stations and only 2 were camera traps, therefore leading me to conclude that the camera traps are generally more effective. Additionally, certain species showed more abundance in certain trap types. For example, 7 out of the 11 raccoon captures were from the camera trap. Dissimilarly, all of the gray fox, bobcat, and house cat captures were found at the scent stations. In total, 19 of the 33 successful captures were found by camera and 14 were found by scent station, displaying that both capture methods prove successful with the camera traps being slightly more effective. 2. Of the 8 species captured either by camera or scent station, there were not enough sightings of a few of them to make any sort of substantial claim about their distribution.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
