Chapter 1: Market and Non market Environments Market environment: The structure of the markets in which a firm operates and the rules that govern market competition. Non Market environment: Legal, political, and social arrangements in which the firm is embedded. Non market determines the rules of the game for the market environment through government’s policies and public expectations. Includes firms, activists, interest groups, the public, and the government. Non market strategy: Is compsed of objectives and a course of action for participating effectively and responsibly in the Non market competition on issues arising in the environment of business. Non market issues: include sustainability, global climate change, security, health and safety, regulations and deregulation, intellectual property protection, human rights, international trade policy, antitrust, social pressure from NGO’s and social activists, news media coverage, social media, corporate social responsibility, and ethics.
