Writing Guide Response Assignment Q: How do you think the experiences a person has had, throughout their life, might influence the way they conduct Sociological research? State 2 positive ways and 2 negative ways our experiences can shape us as researchers. A: I feel that one’s experiences can affect the way they conduct Sociological research. One positive way that it could affect a researcher is by keeping them motivated to conduct studies that they can relate to based on their past experiences. Take for instance an African-American sociological researcher that may have lost friends or people in his community to police brutality. If he was to conduct sociological research on the victim’s behavior as well as that of the police officers involved, he would be more motivated to arrive at conclusions as it is a topic of concern for him.
