Arthur Miller - American playwright, born in Harlem. He wrote Death of a Salesman and a classic essay, “Tragedy and the Common Man”. Suzan-Lori Parks - a black female playwright. She wrote Topdog/Underdog and won the Pulitzer Prize in 2002. Konstantin Stanislavski - developed Method Acting for training actors. Laurette Taylor - a very talented female actress who played Amanda in The Glass Menagerie . People were very affected by her performances. Aristotle - a famous Greek philosopher who developed The Poetics: 6 Elements of Tragedy. Tragedy - an imitation of an action that is serious, complete, and of a certain magnitude. The Poetics: 6 Elements of Tragedy - Plot, Character, Idea, Language, Music, Spectacle. Mimesis - imitation of an action; Greek word for imitation. Catharsis - an emotional release of fear or pity by the audience. Climatic Plot Structure - (linear) cause and effect, late point of attack, high dramatic tension, no subplots, small number of characters. Episodic Plot Structure
