Based on what you have learned in this unit, answer the following questions: 1. With a focus on the facts that D’Alessio and company generally hired young, attractive, and muscular men, asked them to work with almost no clothes, and fed them drugs to brighten their attitudes, how would you characterize management’s culture with respect to employees? Were they valued as mercenaries, as something closer to members of a family, as something else? When one takes into account that the culture or the 1970’s was about decadence, endless partying and “sex, drugs and rock and roll”, it is hard to determine if Studio 54’s beefy employees were mercenaries or a privileged clique where the drugs were a perk of the job, which involved playing with the rich and famous. I would say that the night club’s management had a libertarian culture of freedom, where the pursuit of happiness fitted with the club’s cultural identity as the playground of the rich and famous where cocaine, sex and alcohol were the ingredients for hedonistic partying.
