Khashayar Khalaj September 23, 2016 Social Exchange Theory Social exchange theory is a psychological theory that focuses on relationships between individuals by considering a subjective cost and benefit analysis. This theory explains that individuals try to get more benefits than what they put into, the cost, in a relationship. In other words, individuals want to get the most out of a relationship without having to make a lot of sacrifices, such as time and support. The social exchange theory also explains that a relationship is stronger when there is a balance between what each individual has to pay and the benefits that is received from the relationship. Just like any other theory, this theory has its own strengths and weaknesses. The most important strength of this theory is the fact that it helps individuals make better choices. For example, it helps individuals really question if the relationship is worth it or not by considering the price that needs to be payed in order to gain something. Sometimes, this price could be
