What were the total points the source earned on the test? Where did it earn the most amount of points and how did it earn it? Where did it earn the least amount of points and why did it loose them? Ultimately how will this source help support the main argument (or counter argument) of your essay? I choose the article Women Should Be Allowed to Serve in Combat in the U.S. Armed Forces by J. Michael Brower (2008) from the Opposing Viewpoints database. When applying the C.R.A.A.P. Test, the source I choose scored forty-six out of fifty possible points. In category four (4) accuracy, this source scored high and I gave it a ten (10). The reason why is due to the fact that the author made points and conducted research on both sides of the argument. The resources listed in the reference had quite a few sources from the opposite viewpoint from the authors. When reading the reference section, I also noticed that the article by Brower was edited by Diane Henningfield of the GreenHaven Press. The section of the test where it scored the lowest was category three (3) authority. In this section the article did list the name and his credentials stating that he is an officer in the Oregon Air National Guard, he served as an analyst for the office of the Secretary of the Army in the Pentagon, and he is also an immigration officer in the Department of Homeland Security, I do not find any author credentials such as Ph.D., M.D., ED. S, or J.D. It appeared to me as the author was referencing his experience not his credentials in this topic. While his credentials may be questionable the author makes some great points. Terrorist killing is not gender neutral, Historical Facts, and social aspect for women being excluded are areas that I found highly helpful in this article and I plan to utilize these points to further help solidify my stance on women in the front lines.
