January 17, 2018 COMP 4730 Cheryl Seals Assignment 1 The advent of technology was a double-edged sword. Society now has many ways to communicate with others such as text messaging, email, phone calls, and social media just to name a few. However, along with this vast amount of communication and development of the Internet came social and ethical issues. Cyber bullying is a huge deal in contemporary society, and the Internet providing a great deal of anonymity is not helping officers and others locate these people very easily. Along with this anonymity comes the ability to say things that modern society wouldn’t allow otherwise, like posting racist comments on social media. Anonymity isn’t the only thing that plagues the Internet, but privacy is also an issue. In 2011, Google was able to remove malicious software off more than 250,000 phones and although this was a good use of an invasion of privacy, most users did not realize Google could access customers’ phones without their consent.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
