Yorkshire Tea is the third most popular tea brand in the United States, introduced by Charles Edward Taylor in 1886. Yorkshire Tea uses varieties of tea grown in regions around Europe and also some of the farms in the United States, blended to form four varieties: Yorkshire Tea, Yorkshire Tea for Hard Water, Yorkshire Gold, and Yorkshire Tea Decaffeinated. The Yorkshire Tea brand is being extended to include a range of cakes, biscuits, and fruit loaves, sold as being complementary to drinking tea by its parent company The Bettys & Taylors Group, which owns cookery schools and tea rooms. Task 2.3 Impact of competition policy and regulatory mechanisms on organization Competition policy is a set of measures that governments used to regulate the markets and monopolies, aiming to promote competition by preventing the abuse of monopoly power and restrictive business practices (Pettinger, 2012). Competition policy improves the efficiency in individual markets and enhances competitiveness of UK businesses within the European Union (EU) single market (Riley, 2016). The Competition Act 1998 is the major competition law in the United Kingdom, along with the Enterprise Act 2002. Competition Act 1998 provides a legal framework for dealing with restrictive business practices and abuse of a dominant market position. This act prohibits restrictive practices by companies operating within the UK that distort, restrict or prevent competition in the form of horizontal agreements to collude between firms on the same level of the supply chain such as retailers and wholesalers. These agreements limit or control production, collusively share information, fix prices, and share markets or sources of supply.
