Patrick Hourigan RET 261 Section 1 3-10-08 Homework #4 Chapter 9 Questions 5. The positive aspects of employee turnover include short-term productivity and profits. By hiring only part-time time workers wages will stay lower for longer periods of time. When employee turnover is high this means that few if any employees have been working at the business for a long time so wages should be relatively low. On the opposite side, when employee turnover is low the employees are comfortable with their position and work more effectively. This also produces better customer service and in some businesses, such as factories, more output. The negative aspects of employee turnover include poor long-term performance and customer service decline. When employee turnover is high and several different employees come in and out of positions, customer service may be poor because of the fact that each employee has not had a chance to get comfortable with their job. Also, employees don’t get a chance to get close with one another in order to work more effectively. This decreases employee motivation and effort as well. When employee turnover is low, wages will be typically higher for employees
