Achievement Ideology The Hallway Hangers believe there is no achievement ideology. They do not think they can move up in the world. They think that the only success they can achieve is that of their family. Their box of constraints has many components They do not have anyone to encourage them in reaching out beyond their family status

Achievement Ideology The Brothers have a strong desire to reach their achievement ideology. They are staying in school Trying to make something of their lives They also have a box of constraints with many things holding them back They have jobs and relationships Their family is helping them to reach their goals by giving them encouragement

Structural Forces • There are many restraints/forces preventing us from reaching are goals – The Hallway Hanger’s • Lack of role models • Lack or encouragement • Economic status • Lack of education – The Brothers • Their race • Their economic status • Lack education (due to economic status) Structural forces • Knowing about these forces can help be come a better teacher by: – Realizing everyone has a different background – Spending time after school for those who maybe struggling – Ensure them if they want to accomplish their goals they can – Ensure them that they can accomplish things much greater then their families. – They just have to work for it...
