Across Five Aprils Irene Hunt Irene Hunt, born in Pontiac, Illinois in 1907, wrote the novel “Across Five Aprils” which is about a nine-year-old boy named Jethro Creighton living in Indiana during the Civil War. Jethro’s older brothers are fighting in the war, and he and his mom receive a letter one day from Tom Creighton. Tom, with the lack of literature and education, writes about how they were heading to Donelson because they weren’t “feeling set-up” about Fort Henry. 1.
