Joan Cardenas Final Presentation On The Way to Califor-N-I-A Have you ever been on a family road trip to some far away destination? You know, the scenario with dad in the driver’s seat, mom sitting in the passenger seat next to dad, and you and your siblings fussing in the backseat? Then, you probably know what happens when dad relies on his “man-stinct”. This is a typical scenario in my family. It was a dark brisk morning when my family and I were finally packed to see our cousins who came to visit the United States from the Philippines. They were staying with our aunt in California, and we absolutely promised our cousins that we would see them. When we started out the driveway, Mom yelled, “Dad, look out!” She calls my dad “Dad”, too. It’s a part of our culture to use that nickname for husbands or “Mom” for wives. He replied calmly, “I know, and I did. I looked both ways, and there is no car coming. It’s clear.” “No it’s not. Look at that car up the hill. It’s coming now. I bet you didn’t see that, did you?” “It’s parked in front of that house. It hasn’t moved since two days ago.”
