CISC464/664 Lab-1 – Vincent Sica Re-submission Due: Wednesday 7 th 11:59pm Revisions made to task 4 Task 1 - Encryption using different ciphers and modes In this task, I encrypted the file words.txt using various modes of encryption and different ciphers. Ciphers used included: AES, DES and BF. Modes included: CBC, OFB, and CFB. Each encryption mode and cipher gabbled the plaintext so that viewing the cipher file didn’t reveal any of the plaintext. [As shown in Figure 1] Figure 1: Plaintext Ciphertext (aes-128-cbc) Task 2 - Encryption Mode – ECB vs. CBC In this task I displayed the difference between ciphers ECB and CBC. In ECB, every block of data is independently encrypted with only the message and key as input. This means that blocks with the same value will yield the same cipher block, which makes it very easy to see patterns. In CBC, instead of just processing each block separately, every block will be XOR’ed with the encrypted previous block. This means that every block depends on the output of the previous block.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
