Running head: MR NEWCOMB AND SELF-CARE STRATEGIES 1 Mr. Newcomb and Self-care Strategies WGU
MR. NEWCOMB AND SELF-CARE STRATEGIES 2 There is only one question that Mr. Newcomb has asked of me. How I personally feel about him or his wife is irrelevant when it is compared with his request. He has asked me to lie for him and I will not. Mr. Newcomb has the right do decide for himself whether seeing a mistress is acceptable. He has already shown that he has no problem lying to his wife. I will not offer my opinion of his personal choices. It is not my place, in this situation, to offer a view that could possibly increase his level of anxiety. I want what is best for him and hearing my personal opinion would not be inline with that desire. I would tell Mr. Newcomb that he has a right to the truth and to not be lied to and I believe Mrs. Newcomb has that same right and to deny her that would not be just for her. I would however let Mr. Newcomb know that I have no intention of informing Mrs. Newcomb of his desire or his request and if asked I would refer her back to him. The situation highlights that I crossed a boundary. I let myself get too close to a patient and let myself think that I knew him.
