Nordic Skiing Journal Entry Questions 1.What are the physical benefits of Nordic Skiing (Cross Country Skiing)? The benefits of Nordic Skiing include: conditioning of leg muscles through the skiing action and development of the triceps muscles in the arms through the motion of poling strengthening of the core muscles as a result of the flexing of the ips in double poling and kick double poling 2. List at least 2 points for each of the following regarding Cross Country Skiing: Site Selection, Social Skills and Etiquette, Risk Management Site Selection: -A cross country ski park will provide the best conditions for skiing -A flat plot of land such as a sport field is ideal for teaching Nordic skiing if access to a ski park is not possible -Hills with gentle slopes will afford opportunities to teach the skills of ascending and descending -Frozen ponds and lakes should be avoided unless local regulations for safe ice thickness are observed -Streams and brooks entering a pond or lake are unsafe for skiing at any time throughout the skiing season Social Skills and Etiquette: -Do not ski over the tips of tails of another person’s skis -Be extra careful with the sharp tips of ski poles -Help skiers up if they are having difficulty returning to their feet -No roughing about or throwing snow -When skiing through deep snow, take turns breaking the trail (skiing in the lead) to share energy burden -When skiing on a groomed ski trail, the slower skier heeds the call of
