Idea of family wage.  1 earner is enough to pay for whole  family. Never before or since – dominant family form. In 50s, 87% own TV. In 50s, 75% own car.

Blissful 1950s? Excluded minority families. Almost 1/3 children –lived in poverty. Higher teen birth rates than today! 2 million married couple – living apart 25-30%  ended divorce.
