Running Head: ASSESSING THE IMPLICATIONS OF HUMAN FACTORS 1 Assessing the Implications of Human Factors in Maintenance With Respect To Complacency and Stress By Name A Research Project Proposal Submitted to the Worldwide Campus In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of Course ASCI 490, The Aeronautical Science Capstone Course, for the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics Degree Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
ASSESSING THE IMPLICATIONS OF HUMAN FACTORS 2 Oct 2016 Abstract The purpose of this project is to explore the impacts of complacency and stress within the aviation maintenance. With the help of quantitative and qualitative reasoning, modeling, along with research data and raw information collected from various governmental and aviation websites, this project is expected to look into the negative impacts that complacency and stress have on maintenance in aviation. The primary scope of this project is to describe in detail the overall effects of stress and its causes in relationship to complacency in aviation maintenance. By evaluating the risk associated with aviation along with the review of previous and current history of accidents/incidents, more insight will be obtained to understand how stress and complacency can adversely affect overall performance in aviation maintenance. This project also includes the critical analysis and recommendation section for organizations to recognize stress and complacency and understand about the certain steps that should be taken to mitigate these factors and their possible impact in aviation maintenance. In the conclusive part of this project, the result of the research is mentioned and it has provided detail information and data to support the recommendations on how to mitigate stress and complacency in aviation maintenance.
ASSESSING THE IMPLICATIONS OF HUMAN FACTORS 3 Project Title “Assessing the Implications of Human Factors in Maintenance with Respect to Complacency and Stress” Statement of the Project: Aviation maintenance has several major factors that contribute to accident and incidents. Two of these major factors are complacency and stress and these are regarded to be preventable. This project will explore the positive and negative effects of stress on the human body and the negative effects from these stresses that lead to complacency. This paper will first describe the differences between good and bad stress and how it plays a role in the human body along with how stress coupled with complacency plays a role in aviation maintenance. Evidence gathered from the past data of aircraft accidents and incidents will be examined along with a discussion on the role of stress and complacency in those accidents. Major part of this project will be focusing on the information which will show how to recognize and combat the effects of stress which could lead to complacency in both aviation maintenance as well as society. The project will also
