Personal NarrativeThere are several reasons I chose to attend Durham Technical Community College.First,I live in Durham, so the drive to school would be convenient and cost effective.I also wanted togo to a school that provided excellent education at an affordable cost.Durham Tech provided mewith an excellent University Transfer program that will allow me to transfer into a four-yearschool after two years of credits. When I finish my courses at Durham Tech, I plan to pursue adegree in business. In order to have an easy transition into a four-year university I plan to makegood grades and take courses that will help me succeed later.I think Business is a strategic routebecause there are many job possibilities that could come from it.I would like a career in international business.I first learned about business careers fromBusinessweek Magazine. With international business, I could incorporate both travel andbusiness into one job.I feel like this would allow me to understand and experience othercultures.I value learning new things from new people, and seeing the world through theperspective of others. This is one of the reasons I moved to the United States from Croatia. When I moved here I liked the diversity among the people, and that even though people aredifferent, they can all work together to form a national community. If there is such a differencebetween two countries then I would like to get to know the differences among others as well.I am looking forward to this semester and the semesters to come at Durham TechnicalCommunity College, because having an education is a great opportunity.College is an importanttransition into adulthood. It prepares me for my future career, and it allows me to have moreindependence, and more responsibility.I feel that an international business major can lead to anumber of different career paths, such as banking, finance, management, and the ability to travelthe world to do my job.
