Social Studies Differentiation Part 1: Lesson Plan Grade level: 2nd Social studies standard: Idaho Core Standards: 2SS.4.2.1- Explain important customs, symbols, and celebrations that represent the development of American Beliefs and principles. [She16] 2.SS.4.2.2- Examine the meaning of key words in the Pledge of Allegiance. [She16] Arts standard: na (Idaho does not have art standards) Learning objective: This lesson will cover the meaning of the flag and define key words in the Pledge of Allegiance. Students will recite the pledge and we will discuss the vocabulary. I will then read and explain what the flag stands for and what the design symbolizes 1-2 learning objectives: For the differentiated lesson s my goal is to keep students engaged and active in the lesson. The extension for the ab ove grade level student will give her something extra to do as well as give her a chance to use technology to research and create a new lesson for the other students to learn from. The on-grade level student will have a similar experience but with smaller expectations. Finally, the student who is below grade level will sti ll be involved in the lesson to learn and discuss with peers but he will not fall behind because of the smaller amount of work.
