Running head: THE TERROR WATCH LIST DATABASE’S TROUBLES CONTINUE2The Terror Watch List Database’s Troubles Continue.Concepts in this chapter illustrated in the caseThe use of an integrated database system to detect and curb terrorism is one of the majorideas discussed in this section. The Watchlist database is an integrated system that contains datafor suspected terrorists. The database was developed by Terrorist Screening Centre to integrateinformation concerning terror suspects into a single list from various government agencies whichheld separate lists.Quality and accuracy issues of the watch list database are other concepts discussed in thiscase. The case points out the significant inaccuracy and inefficiency challenges or somewhattroubles that are facing the database; these problems revolve around the inability of the databaseto hold accurate information about a terrorist and therefore, the database information is at timesmisleading (Lichtblau, 2010). The final concept, in this case, is based on the challenges faced byvictims of innocent listing in the watch list database because of erroneous data. The goal of creating the terror watch list and its benefitsThe terror watch list database was designed to integrate terrorist information which washeld separately by various government agencies into a single file. The principal aim ofdeveloping the consolidated terror watch list database was to boost inter-agency communicationthat would ease detection and arrest of terrorists. Initially, before the development of the watchlist database, it is hard to detect terrorists as each government security agency could only rely onits watch list for terror screening which lacked sufficient data to enhance chances of identifyingpotential terrorists (Alvarez, 2010).Although queries raised against the efficiency and accuracy of the consolidated terrorwatch list database, the benefits are immense. With the unified database, security agencies cannow rely on and access a broad range of data for terror screening and thus taming terrorism at ahigher degree. Moreover, the database enhances verification of the terrorist information by

Factors responsible for these weaknessesThe consolidated terror watch list database has some fundamental flaws. Some of theseshortcomings relate to inaccuracy, inefficiency and poor data quality. According to the casestudy, the terrorist data inputted into the consolidated terror watch list database is not thoroughly
