Term: Indulgence Definition: an official pardon given by the pope in return for money in the Middle Ages; people could pay the Catholic Church to be forgiven for their sins, a practice opposed by Martin Luther. Term: Salvation Definition: to go to heaven, in religious terms Term: Reformation Definition: the term used to describe Luther's break with the Church and the movement it inspired Term: Protestant Definition: refers to Christian groups that separated from the Catholic Church. During the time of the Protestant Reformation, Protestant groups protested or questioned beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church.
Term: Council of Trent Definition: In 1542 Paul III called for a meeting known as the Council of Trent. This meeting helped return the Church's focus to matters of religion and spirituality.
