Curtin University of Technology School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Electrical Systems 100 Mid Term Exam- Semester 2, 2008 Time allowed: 1 hour __________________________________________________________ PROBLEM #1 To find Thevenin equivalent circuit for an electric network (shown by the shaded area in Figure 1), a variable resistance R, Ammeter A and Voltmeter V were connected to the terminals a, b as shown in Figure 1. The value of the variable resistance was changed twice (R 1 and R 2 ) the corresponding readings for the ammeter and voltmeter were recorded as shown in the table below: Figure 1 a) Find the Thevenin equivalent circuit Parameters (R th and V th ) b) Find the condition under which maximum power is transferred to R and calculate this maximum power. c) Draw the Norton
