ERP Systems for Education - Skyward Introduction Enterprise resource planning systems are a key component in implementing structure into an organization through a structured system. An ERP system is a companywide enterprise resource planning system used to plan and control all resources, including inventory, capacity, cash, personnel, facilities, and capital. (Schroeder, 2013) Most companies utilize a computer data base that is tailored to their needs to manage projects and data. The computer program that I am suggesting to Milwaukee College Prep is Skyward. Through numerous trainings at other campuses it was apparent that the current ERP system that was in place at Milwaukee College Prep was not suiting their needs or the needs of staff. Parents even felt as if there should be a system they could use to see their scholars grades, attendance, and a way to communicate with staff other than by phone or their email. Skyward is an ERP system that offers several interfaces for different functions of the business. Each interface is tailored to suit the needs of each school who implements it. The interfaces available are office and administration, classroom tools, family engagement, and student services. Skyward has been chosen by many districts due to smooth implantation, professional development, myDistrict360, state reporting, support, and IT services. These are also all the reason Milwaukee College Prep will benefit with Skyward due to its numerous usages that can be accessed through all levels. Skyward also allows the capability to interface with smartphones for on the go usage by staff, administration, and families. Their training program is impeccable and unparalleled as well. Milwaukee College Prep’s current system WEB school is a very similar interface to Skyward. The current system has many of the similar features, but there are some components that are not helpful due to continuous growth. It is easy to use and is user friendly. It also does have smartphone capability, but the component that has not worked well is family usage. This 2
ERP Systems for Education - Skyward system lacks the capability for families to use it and partner with staff on various situations that are in regards to their scholar. The interface was great when there was only one school, but as the school has grown into four campuses, the need for more has intensified and grown for a system that has more features and more accessibility to more advanced features.
