Surname 1 Abstract This experiment was carried out to identify different compounds based on their density values. The density was found through the micro scale formula that is the density was determined with a pycnometer. After determination of the various densities of the unknown liquids, each was matched with the closest lying value and the identity discovered. The refractive indices of the various compound was also determined using a refractometer and the results matched with the data given in the tables. The relationship between density and the refractive index showed a direct proportionality after matching the results, in that the higher the density, the higher the refractive index and vice versa. This experiment upheld the value of using precision in measurements and the use of microscale techniques in measurements.
