Experiment 1: The Effect of pH on a Food Preservative Susan Wroblewski Organic Chemistry Date Procedure The first part of the procedure was the reaction. 2.00 g of sodium benzoate and 10 ml of water were mixed together with a glass rod till the sodium benzoate is fully mixed in a 30 mL breaker. Then about 4.5 mL of HCL were added to the solution till the solution reacted a pH of 2. The 2 pH was measured with strip of pH paper. Once the solution was at the right pH it was placed into an ice bath til is cooled to a temperature of 10 degrees celicuis .
