The Samsung VR is a virtual reality headset developed by Samsung Electronics. It needs
a mobile device to command it, specifically, the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+,
S6, S7 Edge, and Galaxy S6. The headset does not have any internal hardware; instead, the
Oculus technology powers it. It provides its users with a glimpse into the amazing world of
virtual reality that the high-end devices such as the PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and the Oculus
Rift offer. It was released into the market in November 2015.
SWOT analysis
Strengths
The Samsung VR is an outstanding innovation, which puts it ahead of its competitors in
the industry. Innovation is significant for success in the technology sector. Its price is also low as
compared to the other virtual reality headsets. The Samsung VR retails at $79.99 (Samsung).
Some of its competitors such as the PlayStation VR cost $399 while the Oculus Rift costs
$599.99 (CNET). The device also has superior features than the other virtual reality headsets, for
instance, is has the super AMOLED display. It is also a cutting edge technology that does not
need users to have personal computers.
Weaknesses
The major weakness of the Samsung VR is that it only works with the Samsung Galaxy
S7, Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6, S7 Edge, and Galaxy S6. It does not allow connectivity to

other software (Samsung). The device’s features are still below those of its rivals such as the
HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift that has high resolutions and built-in headphones.
