General Manuel de Mier y Teran recommends military occupation of Texas. In the law of 1829, Mexico declares slavery illegal in TX. In the law of 1830, the US-MX border is closed and there is Mexico military occupation of TX. In 1831, Bradburn closes all TX ports except Anahuac. Bradburn also arrests William B. Travis and Patrick Jack on charges of sedition. Soon after, there is the First Battle of Anahuac b/c he wouldn’t release Travis and Jack. In August, troops at Nacogdoches are defeated by Anglos and the Mexicans are forced out of East Texas. Convention at San Felipe asks for repeal law of 1830 and TX statehood. In December, the centralist leader President Bustamante is overthrown by Santa Anna, a federalist. After assuming power, Santa Anna becomes a centralist and many people support his uprising. Santa Anna removes Bradburn from office for overstepping his power, and Travis and Jack are released. This shows the Anglos that the government easily responds to their revolt. TX wants
