In “My Body Doesn’t Belong to You”,Burtman expresses that the society we live in todayshows how women are treated less than what they are worthwhile in “Women In Science”,Coleshows how women are excluded from professions they should be allowed to find interest in,which come together to show how women are expected to be what society expects of them--nothing more and nothing less. In some cases, people may argue that if you are a woman you areviewed as lesser because of the ideas that society puts into peoples minds. Females should beproud of who they are, no matter what society claims to be true about them. In order to find asolution to this problem, people need to become more aware of gender separation in order tocreate a fair line between society's expectations of women and their expectations of men. Theseparation from genders since birth to adulthood is proposing the negative effects that havecreated this divide between male and females.When one thinks about science the gender that comes to mind is male. How is it thatthere is automatically a stereotype for science to be a man’s field? K. C Cole realizes how badgender separation is in “Women in Science”.Cole is one of the few women who study physicsand chose to write about women in the science field. She knew that there were fewer womenwho studied science when she first noticed how many men filled her classes in college. Colebecame more aware of this issue when she attended a conference at John Hopkins University.
Banta 2There was less than a handful of women who attended and how little women had an interest inphysics and science. In her article, she expresses that women shouldn’t feel out place whentaking a science course or attending classes that are mostly filled with men. A person’s gendershouldn’t determine their field of studies, especially for women, because any person should beable to study and pursue whatever major that they desire, even if it does reside in the science ormathematical fields.Science equals men, a stigma that is commonly known for.
