NEUR 2202 Chapter 8 Textbook Notes Activity Guided Neural Development 8.1 Motor Neuronal death is gated by neuronal activity motor neuronal apoptosis is controlled by target muscles (they are thought to supply some mixture of neurotrophic factors that neurons must compete for) silencing communication between motor neurons and muscles suspends the competition and no neurons die ex. Curare (toxin that blocks acetylcholine receptors) was injected into chick embryos and motor neuronal death was postponed o when blockade is lifted, motor neuron death resumes and chick looks like untreated embryos Hypothesis: curare increases the number and size of neuromuscular junctions which might provide more neurotropic factors o Diff drugs were tested and only ones that expanded the neuromuscular junctions postponed neuron death Therefore, when muscles are electrically silenced, fibers release signals to entice more nerve inputs and make more neurotropic factors available o With no scarcity, death is postponed 8.2 Developing muscle fibers start off with polyneuronal innervation

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
