APPLICATION LOG 10 2 Narrative Paradigm of Walter Fisher According to this paradigm, every communication occurs through reporting of events and storytelling. Fisher claims that human beings are storytellers and stories are more convincing rather than arguments. Communication based on maintaining interactions instead of passing information is called phatic communication. People identify those stories with their common sense that is more appropriate to their beliefs and actions. Fisher proposed his narrative paradigm which is in contrast to Plato and Aristotle’s rational world paradigm. According to rational world paradigm, individuals make decisions based on logic and evidence whereas, in narrative paradigm, decisions are based on good reasons that are determined by history.
