Torres 1 Jeremiah Torres Professor Finkelstein ENG 111 - College Composition I 6 December 2017 Research Draft Some may argue that going to the Dentist is unnecessary for your teeth, if your teeth could speak, they’d disagree. You see, Dental Hygiene/Dental care is crucial to the health of your teeth, making daily appointments is not harmful to you, but beneficial. Why exactly should you visit your local Dental clinic? Why should you take care of your teeth? What are the benefits of visiting your Dentist? What are the benefits of good oral hygiene? Those are all important questions with important answers that I’d be glad to answer. First thing’s first; why should we visit the Dentist? These visits are “essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums” without a professional diagnosing you, or making sure your teeth are healthy, your teeth are at risk of becoming unhealthy. Dental checkups can keep unhealthy habits in check, such habits include “chewing ice, biting your nails, clenching your jaw, grinding your teeth, eating particularly sticky or hard sweets, brushing your teeth too hard, drinking coffee and red wine, and of course smoking.” Oral damage caused by unhealthy habits can be checked by a Dentist. X-rays can help a Dentist find underlying problems such as jawbone damage or impacted teeth. Torres 2 diagnosing any problems or complications, and by making sure your mouth is healthy. You can practice oral hygiene by brushing twice a day, flossing daily, eating healthy, avoiding cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, and regularly visiting your dentist. Research suggests that the health of your mouth mirrors the health of your body. (Healthy Smile) It is recommended that you visit the dentist every six months to frequently maintain your teeth by a professional. Your teeth are checked for tooth decay during a dental examination; Plaque and tartar are being looked for, because they tend to build up rather quickly. Your Dentist or Dental Hygienist will evaluate the health of your gums, they will examine your neck and mouth, checking to see if there may be cancer or other diseases.
