1 EXPLORING ANCIENT MYSTERIES The monumental size and complexity of the Tomb of Shihuangdi is astounding, yet its location and construction details were to be kept secret. What was the emperor’s purpose for such an elaborate, secret burial place? The tomb of Shihuangdi was the burial place of the first Chinese emperor, which has remained unopened ever since. The discovery (Dong, P. (2000). China's major mysteries: Paranormal phenomena ) of this tomb has been described as one of the first archeological discoveries of the world, but still remains unopened, raising concerns among archeologists and even historians, with just speculations of why the tomb has not yet been opened by the Chinese authorities, thousands of years after its construction. The construction of the tomb was in the period when there were constant fights in the Mediterranean regions, including China, where the Roman republic was constantly fighting with the Carthaginians.
