M5A1: M5 Case Study – Glasgow Airport 2 On June 30 th , 2007, Glasgow airport became the target of a terrorist attack when “a Jeep Cherokee 4x4 vehicle gained unauthorized access to the inner forecourt of Glasgow Airport”. (Crichton, N.D) The attack was carried out by two unlikely suspects an Indian engineer, Kafeel Ahmed and the second Bilal Abdulla, an Iraqi doctor, who were both inspired by the al-Qaida extremists. Both men “planned to turn a Jeep Cherokee loaded with gas canisters and petrol cans into a massive mobile bomb” (O’Hare, 2017) by attempting to ram the SUV through the entrance doors but were stopped a few feet short of the entering due to the security bollards placed outside the entrance. Fortunately, when the vehicle made impact it failed to explode and instead simply caught on fire, severely burning both bombers and days later killing Kafeel Ahmed.
