1. Why does the level of encoding matter with regards to memories? Encoding usually requires attention and attention is critical to the encoding of memories. However, not all attention is created equal. Therefore, some methods of encoding create more durable memory codes than others do. For example, structural encoding (emphasizes the physical structure of the stimulus) is more shallow form of processing compared to semantic encoding (emphasizes the meaning of verbal input). 2. Explain the dual-coding theory. Dual-coding theory is a theory of cognition according to which humans process and represent verbal and non-verbal information is separate, related systems. 3. Explain the concept of "learning styles." Is it valid? The concept of “learning styles” revolves around the idea that people learn in different ways such as visual, auditory or hands-on activities.
