Diaz 1 Idania Diaz Professor Cochran-Yzquierdo ENG 125 12 February 2017 Amontillado Questions 1.What can the reader infer about Montresor’s social position and character from hints in the text? What evidence does the text provide that Montresor is an unreliable narrator? Montresor was once rich, respected, admired and beloved. Coming from a great family, he envied Fortunato. His friend statues mention many time as above his own. Montresor would praise him but in the beginning of the story he was faking to like him in in order deceive him. The text show that Montresor is clearly disturb by the insult Fortunato pose to him. It’s never said what it was but one thing is for sure Montresor was the villain. One claim that we know to be false was that Montresor would tell his friend that they were in search of the Amontillado. He lures Fortunato by using something he desire to have to trap him and kill him. Another claim that Fortunato knew that Luchresi was not better than him at wine tasting.
