DB2 2 db2 There are many questions that have to be answered when it comes to choosing a design that will answer the question effectively and efficiently. One needs to be able to compare and contrast the different research designs that are being used in research for life-threatening diseases and or disorders. I chose to compare and contrast Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) and a Cohort Study. “Randomized studies are considered to be the gold standard of study designs as they minimize biases and confounding”(Sullivan, 2012, p. 13). Subjects are picked randomly, they can have one or more treatments and one of the treatments could even be a control group. The reason that subjects are picked randomly is to balance out the groups and in knowing the characteristics that might affect the outcome, which minimizes confounding (Sullivan, 2012, p.15). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
