Surname 1 The industrial growth in the United States began in the early 1800s and continued steadily to and through the civil war. In the decades following the Civil war, the country emerged as one of the largest in the world, with many industries expanding and new ones appearing. The petroleum refining, the steel manufacturing, and the electrical power are some of the industry that emerged during this era, while the railways expanded exponentially. Through this significant growth, the American society was significantly transformed. On this note, this essay seeks to explore the impact of industrialization on the American society between the time the Civil War ended and when the WWI ended. Precisely, the paper demonstrates ways in which industrialization changed the economic, social, and political development of the U.S. After the civil war, the American faced the task of rebuilding their war-torn society, as such; industrialization took a rather unpredictable change of events. 1 The era was named as the gilded age, reflecting the combination of outward wealth and inner poverty and corruption. 2 Since the period lacked powerful and charismatic leaders, historian often terms this period by negatives, stressing more on greed, scandals, and corruption that occurred. 3 In the years following the end of civil war, immigrants came to the US for economic opportunities.
