How did workers use populist leaders to improve their position in society and how did populist leaders use workers to stay in power? Populist created opportunities for workers to identify with the nation in ways that would have been unimaginable only decades earlier. Populists blasted the corruption and privilege of traditional oligarchies closely linked to the shattered import-export system. This allowed the populist to rise to electoral victory. Once they were elected into office, the attempted to implement a set of core policies aimed at the further industrial and social development of their countries. They promoted state control of critical sectors of the economy. Their program favored the interests of the urban middle class and the industrial working class. Workers felt more equitably treated in their relations with management than ever before with the implementation of the first social security systems along with important benefits such as modern labor codes and welfare programs. *Pushed for social security *So popular because they represented what the working class wanted *Fighting corruption and oligarchies 2. According to Daniel James' selection about Perón in Argentina, the workers identified with him for economic reasons and political reasons.
