Surname 1 Name: Course: Tutor: Date: The Head Of Medusa. Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1960) was a prolific Flemish artist who had great success and fame across Europe for his artistic works in the 17th century. He was born in Westphalia, now Germany, in a town known as Siegen. Ruben was among the seven children of a well-off and who had married a well-educated wife. Ruben’s family moved to a city in Spanish Netherlands, now Belgium then known as Antwerp in 1587 after his father’s death. Here, Ruben went through artistic and educational training. In the year 1598, he was admitted into a professional printer’s guild in Antwerp (Harris & James, 615). Most of Ruben’s arts depicted were based on mythological, historical and religious subjects with most of his patrons being churches and royalty. Ruben was better known for such works like “The Head of Medusa (1618),” “The Descent from the Cross (1612–1614),” “Peace and War (1629-1630)," “The Garden of Love” among many others. His art style was a combination of Renaissance classicism knowledge
