The reading passage proposes three possible reasons which could have led to the Little Ice Age from 1350 to 1900 C.E. However, according to the listening, the arguments in the reading are unconvincing. First, the reading believes that the cooling was caused by the melt ing glaciers. The glaciers became cold fresh water and flew into the Gulf Stream. As a result, the water disrupted the ocean current as well as disrupting the climate. On the other hand, the professor states that the disruption of current could only have affected the climate of the Northern hemisphere. But it could not explain the climate change in the Southern hemisphere at places such as … and … . Therefore , it could not explain the Little Ice Age. Second, the reading thinks that the volcanic eruptions might have emitted enough gas and dust , which could cover prevent the sunlight from reaching the surface of the earth .
