Surname 1 Name Course Professor Date Chapter 9 Essay Question 1. How do you explain the universality of religion? To start with it is quite possible that there was a population blockage at a given time and that there were roots for one religion, one language. This blockage/bottleneck happened around 50, 000 years and 100, 000 years ago. People had time before and after this time to observe and inspect the ways of culture, which there were to take. It is these ways that were incorporated to become different religions. Archeologists come across evidence of existence and origin of religion by humans as early as 50, 000 years ago. Practices and beliefs of religious are known to modern societies. Taylor used to believe that religion came about after people started to speculate about death, trances and dreams. The whole idea for the presence of the departed individual in dreams directed persons to believe that a dead person soul is still around with them. Animism was the term used by Taylor to mean the belief of souls ( Jeske, Jeff, 26) . However, his opinions were later criticized since it did not cater for the emotional factor of religion. Religion is only a matter of human desire and curiosity to have answers to almost all the questions. Since human beings are said to be very curious species on earth, they tend to demand simple and easy answers to their questions; and they are somehow lazy when it comes to
