While social media was once used to connect with friends online and post pictures from one’s weekend activities, it has now become common place for us to see businesses with a strong presence on social media as well for a variety of purposes. Social Media allows for brands to interact with consumers in ways that weren’t previously possible and to monitor as well as advertise in a unique fashion. Nordstrom uses 11 different Social Media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram all to engage, monitor, and market to their millions of consumers and potential customers. With goals such as improving brand loyalty and inertia as well as conversion, it is paramount for firms looking to compete at the highest level to excel in Social Media marketing. Social Media Marketing Strategies Use Twitter to provide extra customer support Customer support centers accessed via telephone and email are being gradually replaced by social media. Customers are increasingly turning to the retailer’s online platforms to ask questions, post concerns or comment about a particular product. Through social media Nordstrom has the opportunity to converse with customers in real time and appropriately answer queries and complaints.
