2 In the United States a popular myth is told that half of all marriages fail. Divorce has become a normal part of today’s culture in the United States. The effects it has on children is tremendous and often results in its fair share of consequences. Divorce has a negative effect on children that affects them well into their adult hood that can affects the way they live their life. One consequence of how divorce negatively effects children is the trust issues that it creates. Divorce causes families to split up and can possibly alter the way a child sees things. One cause for divorce is parental conflict. Parental conflict produces tension in the household which can result in divorce. Parental conflict can result in a child having trust issues that can affect their future intimate relationship they have with people. For example, Dr. Carl E. Pickhardt writes in an article about divorce stating “Issues within a parent's marriage, including divorce, may have had a direct effect on a child's psychological wellbeing, intimate relationships, trusting friends or acquaintances and trust overall” (Pickhardt, 2011). Children often have the impression that their parents are superhero like beings that are always there to protect and solve problems. Children are very impressionable and parents are ones who have the biggest impact on them. When parents’ divorce, it can destroy or furthermore implement trust issues in the child’s future. Elizabeth Marquardt conducted a survey of adults who were children of divorce asking if trust issues were still a prominent problem in their adult life (Marguardt, 2011). “Divorce continues to impact children and young people through childhood, adolescence, leaving home, young adulthood, forming their own marriages, having their own children, and even into the caretaking of their aging parents.” (Marguardt 2011). The impact that trust issues have carry on and have a major effect on the ways they live and the way they interact with people.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
